rebound control: Ads get reinforcements

Today saw some good news within the Anaheim organization and a few of those pieces apply to the Admirals!

steckel gets signed

C David Steckel, who had been with the Ads on a PTO, signed a 1-year, two-way deal with the Ducks. He’ll make $550,00o with the Ducks and $250,00 with the Admirals according to Eric Stephens. With Saku Koivu‘s return yet to be announced, this gives the Ducks another option at 4C if they want to send down Rickard Rakell. In the meantime, Steckel will be putting the Admirals offside more often than not when he tries to enter the offensive zone.

matt beleskey, viktor fasth assigned on conditioning loans

For two games, at least, the Ads will have some reinforcements. Like the Luca Sbisa loan, the Admirals will get two Ducks for a couple games. G Viktor Fasth  is back in Norfolk colors, for at least a start or two. The Swedish netminder will finally give John Gibson a break. As a consequence, Norfolk fans will most likely see Frederik Andersen back as he is still technically on his ELC.

LW Matt Beleskey is another story. A broken thumb has kept him sidelined for the first part of the season.  Beleskey is a bit of a tough-nosed guy who can score a bit like Pat Maroon.  When Beleskey gets back to Anaheim, a tough decision will have to be made. Either Rakell or Devante Smith-Pelly will need to be sent down due to roster size. Either way, Norfolk gets some needed scoring depth.

frederik “freddy” andersen named NHL’s 2nd star of the week

Fan favorite and remarkable goaltender Frederik “Freddy” Andersen got a new award! The rookie was named the NHL’s “2nd Star of The Week”  by going 3-0 and earning a .958 save percentage. Andersen currently has a .952 save percentage of the year.

help out hat trick

Hat Trick, one of the Norfolk Admirals’ two mascots, isn’t just a person in a costume. For over a decade, he’s been portrayed by Art Sessoms. Unfortunately, Sessoms has been diagnosed with cancer.  Charitable Admirals fans, namely the booster club, have set up a few ways for you to help out. One of those is by selling autographed practice jerseys from some of your favorite Admirals players. Check out how to help in this blog link and check out a video story from WTKR3 here.
