I haven’t been writing as much as I should be in this space. Well, here are some News and Views about an AHL team I like to watch.
What a month or so it’s been for Emerson Etem. He got sent back late in November, went back up, and sent back down here for what appears to be the rest of the season. Etem made good on his assignment by having the best month of any player in the AHL. The winger had 15 points in nine games and has helped Norfolk’s offense thrive alongside Swedish offensive dynamos Rickard Rakell and Max Friberg.
How good is Emerson Etem, a guy I thought had locked up a roster spot? Rakell, the team’s leading scorer, has 23 points in 27 games. While it’s impressive, Etem has amassed 20 points in only 12 games. Enjoy the California-born prospect while he’s here, because he’s not staying for long.

Norfolk returns to Scope for the first home stand this weekend and takes on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Ads/BST meetings are always contentious and filled with bouts. The 2012 Toy Toss game is one of the most bizarre things I’ve seen, for one. Bridgeport will be down a defenseman this weekend, as Marc Cantin has been suspended three games for a check to the head. Cantin has appeared in 23 games this season with the Sound Tigers, notching 1 assist and 46 PIM. He won’t be the only opponent out this weekend. Justin Johnson will finish out a 3-game suspension on Friday for a similar incident. Johnson has 2 points and 130 PIM in 29 Games Played. We might see a scrap between him and Zack Stortini on Saturday.
