Another transaction involving the Admirals today. It’s good news!
Los Angeles won game seven against the San Jose Sharks last night, and entered into the second round. Their opponent will be the Anaheim Ducks, setting up the first Southern California playoff series ever. Impressive rookie Rickard Rakell will not be participating.
Anaheim has decided to send Rakell back to Norfolk, most likely on the heels of Matthieu Perrault recovering from injury. Rakell had a solid series for the Ducks, enough so that it looked like he would be sticking with the big club. He will be a welcome addition to a Norfolk team that would love some additional scoring help. During his tenure with the Admirals, Rakell scored 37 points in 46 games. Such a total was good for fourth on the team, behind players who had appeared in more games (and excluding Andre Petersson).
Granted, Norfolk hasn’t quite suffered from the lack of big scorers so far in their series. Thanks to stellar goaltending from John Gibson- currently posting a .958 save percentage- they’ve managed to be in every game. Unlikely heroes like Max Sauve have stepped up and filled the goal-scoring void. Rickard Rakell can only help.
