Anaheim announced their first round of cuts today. Let’s investigate further.
With the AHL preseason a week away and the NHL regular season two weeks away, roster trim downs have begun. For the most part, there were no surprises in the first round of cuts for the Ducks. Assigned to the Admirals are Antoine Laganiere, Charlie Sarault, Nathan McIver, Joseph Cramarossa, and goaltenders Etienne Marcoux and Ryan Faragher. I projected all of these players to be in the conversation for a spot with the Admirals, except the goaltenders. By keeping them in training camp, Anaheim has indicated that they want Igor Bobkov and Jason Labarbera to take up the net in Norfolk. Still, none of these players is a surprise.
Kenton Helgesen was also reassigned, but to his junior club, the Calgary Hitmen. Color me puzzled about this one, as Helgesen is an over-ager. I suppose this is a move to have him adjust to playing offense. More cuts are coming, but these are the ones we have.
