Wednesday has brought a good deal of movement within the Anaheim organization. First, reigning CCM/AHL Player of the Week Chris Wagner has been recalled by the Ducks. Wagner had a spectacular debut weekend, netting a hat trick against Phillip Grubauer (including two short-handed goals) along with a tally against Hershey in Monday’s loss. An injury to Patrick Maroon freed uo the spot for Wagner, who will join the team in Orange County. Expect a recall from the Utah Grizzlies sometime soon. No AHL forwards are on the Grizzlies, but I would expect training camp invitee Danick Paquette to be recalled from the SLC.
John Gibson has been reassigned to the Admirals. Slated to share time with Frederik Andersen, the 2nd year netminder has not seen action since a particularly rough outing against his hometown Pittsburgh Penguins. The move will allow Gibson to get some more playing time, as he will start both games this weekend. Jason LaBarbera will make his way to California to back-up Andersen.
Steven Whitney has been placed on unconditional waivers. Once he clears these waivers, he will be bought out by the Ducks, who currently have Whitney signed to an ELC. He will become a free agent and may seek out Europe as a destination. Whitney was not in camp and was the subject of several healthy scratches last year.
