The core of Norfolk’s ECHL roster comes into shape.
After the Ads announced their season-ending roster, they extended qualifying offers (QOs) to five players. These players have until August 1st to come to terms with the Ads and can NOT be traded within that window. Nick Pageau was not qualified because he signed an AHL contract with Bakersfield. Norfolk extended qualifying offers to Gabriel Verpaelst, Brendon Nash, Francis Verrault-Paul, Jordyn Kremer, and Luke Judson. Strangely Bakersfield’s top scorers from last year are not present. What this could mean is that Jonathan Lessard, Sebastien Sylvestre, and Josh Currie are signed already. It is unknown because the Norfolk PR arm is slow. Let’s investigate the QOs:
Gabriel Verpaelst: Tough customer defender with 10 points last year but 141 PIM. There’s your sandpaper guy.
Brendon Nash: AHL vet, 24 points last year, top defender?
Francis Verrault-Paul: Bottom-line center finished his year in Switzerland. Kind of weird
Jordan Kremyr: Captain of last year’s team had 24 points. Continues as vet presence.
Luke Judson: already signed in the EIHL for next year.
This is weird and I could see several of these contracts expiring. If the player does not agree by August 1st the Ads can sign the player to any salary or do nothing. I think this might be a total building-from-scratch move. Very confused here, and the Ads need to sign *someone*.
