bakersfield signs winquist and ford to AHL contracts

Will they become Admirals? Not so much

Bakersfield, Norfolk’s AHL affiliate (sigh), announced two more signings today. The Condors re-upped with 2 players who sported Barons colors last year and will stay in the Oilers organization. Matt Ford is an AHL veteran that spent the last two years in Oklahoma City with 47 and 53 point seasons while being an Alternate captain. Such numbers put him at #36 on the AHL Free Agents Big Board (I contributed!).  While he’s an AHL contract, don’t expect him to make his way to Norfolk unless something goes terribly wrong.

Josh Winquist has a stronger chance of Norfolk, but a pretty small one. Winquist started out in the ECHL with Bakersfield, and scored an impressive 23 points in 18 games. Promising play had him promoted to OKC, wherein he posted 19 points in 46 games. His impressive rookie performance vaulted him to #80 on our Free Agents board.  Winquist could be sent to Norfolk if he doesn’t live up to his rookie level of play. I think he’ll have similar or stronger numbers–stranger things have happened, though.
