Let’s make a hockey team.
The Admirals re-entry into the ECHL took another step today with the signing of two players to ECHL contracts. These players will be Admirals. They can, however, sign PTOs with an AHL club if they are requested as some sort of injury call-up. Further, they can sign with any AHL club, not just Bakersfield. If they were signed to an AHL contract with Bakersfield, this would not be the case.
Norfolk brings in two players from last year’s Condors squad. Chase Schaber is entering his third season in the ECHL, with the past two as a Condor. Schaber’s first campaign saw him net 44 points in 64 games before a slight decline to 33 points in 51 games, while being named an alternate captain. This is a good dose of offense for the Admirals, who did not possess much or any at all. Schaber also appeared in 13 games for Oklahoma City, though only contributing an assist. Based on these factors, Schaber should be one of the leading offensive players for the Ads and possibly the first line center.
Nick MacNeil is the other signing, and another Canadian college player. He is entering his second year as a pro after posting 26 points in 45 games. Hopefully, MacNeil plays a full season and improves on his scoring numbers as an Admiral. More signings should come eventually.
