Defender brings experience…

Norfolk signed another player on Wednesday, defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel. If that name is familiar, it’s because he was invited to Admirals training camp last year. Roussel played for head coach Eric Veillieux for two seasons in Shawinigan of the QMJHL. Roussel was a 2009 2nd round draft choice of Nashville who never played a game for the Preds. The 2013-14 season is saw the blueliner play 66 games for the Milwaukee Admirals and net 4+13=17.

Roussel’s lack of a breakthrough lead to him not being qualified by Nashville at the end of that season. He would then attend Ads training camp before being assigned to the Utah Grizzlies. He played in a modest 7 games before being traded to the Greenville Road Warriors¬†¬†Swamp Rabbits. Another short stint followed with 19 games in the South Carolina Upcountry, before he found his final destination for last season: the LNAH.

Known more for its pugilism than its hockey, Roussel put up 12 points in 20 games for Isothermic. The question is if Roussel still has the talent to compete at an ECHL level. Roussel had a solid 12-13 with Cincinnati- 17 points in 66 games. Will the 2nd round draft pick break out?
