Puck-moving defenseman makes his way to Scope
Lost in yesterday’s news with several Edmonton assignments is a move by the Rockford IceHogs, the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. Defenseman Mathieu Brisebois has been assigned to Norfolk by Rockford. Brisebois signed with the Coyotes out of junior, playing 28 games with Portland in the AHL before being packaged with David Rundblad as part of a trade to Chicago. Last year was Brisebois’ most productive as a pro, as he accumulated 44 points on the backend between Indy and Rapid City of the ECHL. Chicago has an ECHL affiliation with Indy, but they can assign players to any team they wish. AHL teams are allowed to do this as well. Last season, Norfolk assigned goaltender Etienne Marcoux to Rapid City instead of Utah for playing time. Brisebois’ offensive attack on the blueline should help the Norfolk power play, especially if he resembles his play at the end of the year.
