New Year, and a trade!

Tuesday Transactions brings a trade to the forefront. Norfolk brings in Dean Ouellet from Fort Wayne for future considerations. Ouellet’s potted 5 points in 8 games for the Komets. ┬áLast season, Ouellet spent 26 games with Lyon of France, scoring 21 points. Ouellet’s a solid ECHL scorer, given his time with the now defunct San Francisco Bulls. In 2012-13, Ouellet put up 24+28=54 for the Bulls, before a 10+20=38 campaign the next year. The forward adds more scoring for the Admirals, and you can always use it.

Norfolk has started 2016 off undefeated, with a home win against Atlanta and a road victory against the Wheeling Nailers. Ty Rimmer, back from his stint in Bakersfield, played both of those games. Rimmer is still 18th in save percentage among all qualified goalies as well as second in saves. A small note: Rimmer is second in saves because he’s had to face 36 more shots on goal than Joel Redmann of the Alaska Aces, which is about a game. Rimmer also gets the benefit of the 2nd-worst shot-suppressing team in the ECHL in front of him.

The Admirals are very much on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs and probably can’t afford to lose more than one or two games this month. The performance on Sunday against Wheeling was impressive; but how will they fare against Orlando on Wednesday and Cincinnati this weekend.
