Norfolk’s home schedule for next season has a lot of familiar faces
Norfolk announced the home dates for their 2017-18 schedule this year. Thanks to a paucity of teams sharing arenas with NBA teams, the ECHL can announce their home schedules earlier than AHL or NHL teams. Next year’s schedule has a lot of familiar foes from the past two seasons, mainly drawing from the North and South divisions. The relocated Jacksonville IceMen will make five appearances at Scope, which is the most of any visitor, but there will be no home contests between the Ads and the expansion Worcester Railers. All teams coming to Scope come from the Eastern Conference. It’s unclear what the ECHL will do with realignment, though it would behoove them not to due something ridiculous like put Cincinnati in the South division again.
Game days at Scope will fall on Fridays and Saturdays more often, with the number of weekday games limited. The season opens up on the weekend of October 27th with a two-game set against the South Carolina Stingrays. There will be five Wednesday games next season, but two of those games will be played as part of field trips, in coordination with local school districts. It’s nice to see that trend reversed, as Norfolk always appeared to be the opponent in quite a few school day games. Another trend coming back in Norfolk’s favor is hosting two weekend three-in-threes. Scope will play host to two Sunday games. The first will cap off a February series against the Thunder, while the second will end the St. Hat Trick’s Day Weekend with a game against Jacksonville. The team will have weeks where it only hosts one game: January 3rd (Wheeling), and April 6th in the finale against Reading.
