Goal-scoring forward comes back for a second year
Norfolk continued its team-building efforts today by announcing the re-signing of forward Ben Murphy. The winger came over from the Tulsa Oilers in a mid-season deal for Samuel Noreau and Alex Ranger. Murphy made an impact with the Admirals, adding 11 goals and 14 assists within 49 games. His contributions amounted to being one of Norfolk’s top ten scorers in the 2016-17 season. Murphy will no doubt look to add on to his first-year campaign, with a full season under Robbie Ftorek.
Murphy’s shot generation numbers were quite impressive. In his Admirals tenure, he was held without a shot in a mere five games. He put up some impressive totals there, including a number of 5 shot games. In a March 10th game against Elmira, Murphy put up 8 shots, though he only netted an assist. With a new supporting cast, he may actually improve upon his totals from last year.
The Admirals should be adding more players throughout this summer. Murphy is another point for stability within the franchise, acting as a link between the Edmonton and Nashville affiliations.
Nashville has made a couple of AHL signings this offseason. Both are forwards: Derek Army and Stephen Perfetto.
